When is the Best Time for Your Maternity Session?

April 16th, 2026

As a maternity photographer, it's my job to capture those precious moments of life when a new soul is preparing to enter this world. And when it comes to deciding the best time to schedule your maternity session, I firmly believe that timing is everything.

You might be asking yourself, 'When is the perfect time for a maternity shoot?' Well, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but generally speaking, I recommend my clients to plan their session between the 28th and 34th weeks of their pregnancy. Why, you may ask? Well, there are several reasons.

In this phase of your pregnancy, the bump is usually quite noticeable, making it an ideal time to capture its shape in all its glory. After all, the goal of a maternity session is to celebrate and document the incredible transformation your body is undergoing. But it’s equally important that you, the soon-to-be mom, are feeling comfortable and at ease during the shoot. Between the 28th and 34th weeks, most moms feel their best. The discomforts of the third trimester haven't fully set in and you can still move around with relative ease, which allows for a wider variety of poses.

Of course, everyone's pregnancy journey is unique. Some moms-to-be may start showing earlier, while others might not have a prominent bump until later. That's why I always encourage open communication and collaboration when planning the timing of your maternity session.

Remember, the goal is to capture your authentic beauty and the magic of motherhood at a time when you feel most comfortable. It's about creating a lasting memory of this special time, a memory that you can look back on with joy and pride.

I’ve been doing this long enough to know that every mom-to-be is beautifully unique, and your maternity session should reflect that. So, whether you're at the 28th week or the 34th week, trust that I’ll capture the real you, the glowing, expectant you. So, let's plan your maternity session at a time when your bump is visible, and you're feeling your best - because you deserve nothing less.
